Looking to Buy a T-Mobile G1 Android Smart Phone? Too Bad, Site's Down

Sorry, we do not want to accept your money for our new T-Mobile G1 smartphone.

That was the message T-mobile just sent to me after I tried to buy their new Google Android phone.

Why is it that we’re always seeing this giant retailers be so unprepared for the obvious hype and excitement surrounding new product releases? T-mobile has the new handset upgrades going through their main T-mobile.com site, which may or may not be a good idea, considering this site will probably go down forcing the rest of their casual users offline as well.

On the day of the iPhone 3G release, there were some people who showed up to the AT&T store to buy a new phone, pay for their plan, etc. completely oblivious to the iPhone launch. These customers, were also turned away, with money in hand.

How many times do we have to see this? If there are consumers who want to buy something, you can not put any barriers in their way, and downtime is a big no-no in the online space.
