The most money spent on the internet is still in retail and ecommerce (besides b2b) and an easy revenue source is affiliate links.
They aggregate a bunch of retail sites and let you find the lowest price on any given item.
I personally find it useful when I want a unique product that isn’t sold at most big box retailers.
Now, I also use flickr for purchasing with pricegrabber as well. When searching for a new ipod stereo system, I want to see what it looks like, and I want to see what it looks like in a real life setting, not in some shadowbox green screen environment.
So why doesn’t yahoo use these flickr photos as an instant photo set for products and build out a price aggregator.
The platform is relatively simple, and yahoo could also use its search engine as native traffic for any product related searches.
