Today I was lucky enough to be given an account to Boxee, and now I want to share my wealth with my readers. Boxee is custom software for your Apple TV that lets you watch Hulu, Comedy Central, and Last.fm among others on your HD TV, via Apple TV.

Thanks to a handy guide put together by Gizmodo, you can configure your Apple TV with Boxee in a couple of steps.

This will be great for YouTube growth, but I don’t know how well this is going to play out for monetizing YouTube.

It’s a pretty cool feature none-the-less, meaning you can browse through pretty much any YouTube video from any widget on any site. Grooveshark just released their widget, but unfortunately it doesn’t include the ability to listen to any song on a remote site, although we may see that functionality employed in the future.

It’s made to be watched using your TV, using just the Apple remote. You can listen to music from Last.fm (no Grooveshark support??), view lyrics, and check out photos from Flickr.

The installation is also quite simple. You load up the contents of the operating system onto a USB drive, plug it into the box of an Apple TV, and it will load all on its own.

I don’t actually have the software in hand, currently they’re in private Alpha, but I’ve sent an email to their co-founder Avner, and hopefully will hear back soon.

I currently own a Tivo Series3 HD, but lately I’ve been having trouble finding good TV to watch, so this would be my perfect solution, and without the monthly fee of a Roku box, Apple TV+Hulu is ideal.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Bush Doctrine, and how it’s referred, it’s along the lines of The Domino Theory or MAD (mutually assured destruction) in that it is a term used by Government officials to refer to specific pieces of federal policy or action.

In this case, the Bush Doctrine is saying America has the right to preemptively attack another nation if they pose an immediate risk to us.

Jon Stewart, continuing on his legacy of being the most trusted man in America, has put together a great collection of Flip-Flops by Karl Rove, Bill O’Reilly, and some other dude. Where their positions on inexperience to lead in the White House, teenage pregnancy, and sexism, are completely reversed as soon as Sarah Palin is nominated.

Honestly, you shouldn’t listen to a word these guys say from now on, this is evidence it’s strictly pandering and they are so pathetically poor at keeping their stories, and their “values” straight it’s laughable. The full 5 minutes is worth the watch:

I found this video on Vimeo’s HD section. They were showcasing it simply because it was amazing. With your startup, throw out the advertising budget. Spend more money on the product, and it’ll sell itself (or I’ll end up selling it for you!)

Ed Mumm was planning to build a house in Steamboat Springs and was doing some work on his own private property and was having so much fun that he thought other people would like to pay to have this type of fun, and that’s when he thought of the idea for Dig This. At Dig This, you can rent a giant bulldozer, escavators, and just about any other heavy machinery and toy around for a couple of hours for about $350.

Startups Ideas: Lemons out of Lemonade

Turning lemons into lemonade is the old adage when it comes to turning a bad situation into something worthwhile, and enjoyable, but it doesn’t just apply to bad situations. In this case, Ed was just planning to build a home for his family out in Steamboat Springs. He found an opportunity in his daily duties and decided to capitalize on it.

The majority of entrepreneurs start a company based on prior experience at an old company. Mark Zuckerberg was supposed to be building a social network for his school, Harvard, when he got the idea to create Facebook. Zuck’s not the only entrepreneur to come from working a previous job, but he’s just one example of an entrepreneur taking advantage of an opportunity to startup a company.

Are there any current initiatives you’re leading at your current job that would make a great independent business? Anything you’re doing for fun that would be a great business? Be careful, however, if you’re leaving a previous job and plan to take their intellectual property. Companies are investing in you, and if you go someplace else and take their technology, you better plan on working out some kind of arrangement with your previous employer of you’ll end up paying for it in the long run.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA x1 comes along the line of a lot of phones that are trying to kill the iPhone. The X1 is a great phone with a slide-out keyboard, and a beautiful touchscreen interface.
