Does The New Macbook Air Support Apple 30" LCD?

When the new Macbook Airs were released, and were promised to be packing new Nvidia chips, I immediately had the idea of buying one, ditching my iMac and connecting it to a 30″ massive LCD.

So am I so lucky as to be able to drive a Apple Cinema Display 30″ with a Macbook Air? Yes.

But there are some stipulations.

You will be able to support the full 2560×1600 resolution, however, you will need to buy an accessory, the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter for $99.

Small price if you ask me, and you’re spending close to $1700 for a monitor, $99 isn’t that much more to ask.

I hate to keep belaboring over these supposed “killers” but it appears to be the new buzzword along the lines of Web 2.0, re-compensation and the like.

If you’re like me and enjoy Macs in any flavor and variety, you’ll be extremely happy to see this ultra-portable running Mac OSX. The MSI Wind, which already is a beautiful laptop, has just been cracked by some engnireering Spaniards, despite the Wind not having been released up until this point.

While I was the first to brush off the Envy 133 as just another Macbook Air Killer, wannabe, these pictures have definitely changed my mind. The Voodoo Envy 133 is most definitely a Macbook Air “killer” or at least contender.

The actual hardware is absolutely beautiful and while it’s not as wafer thin as the Macbook Air, this thing definitely looks beautiful, aerodynamic, and built like a tank. The keyboard itself has a nice black finish, albeit a fingerprint magnet. While earlier pictures showed a white Envy 133, this is the copper model, and it definitely impresses. Gadget: Make Your Macbook Air Faster and Optimized

Being a recent Macbook Air owner, I have gone through a number of steps to optimize my Macbook Air and ensure its running its best.

So here are the steps I took to optimize my Macbook Air for optimal performance:

Monolingual is a freeware app that deletes all those other pesky languages from your Mac. I deleted the languages, and all of the input menu options.

Delete all of the applications you most likely won’t use on your Macbook Air: I deleted iMovie, and Grapher (76mb). You might want to also delete iPhoto (150mb), iChat (109mb), Safari (50mb).

Disable Bluetooth, Sharing, and any other feature you don’t plan to use

Remove all items from your desktop. If there are any files on your desktop, it slows down the computer everytime it has to load each of those files.

I have yet to get a full reading on the battery life as I have been using an EVDO card on the laptop, and haven’t been completely away from a power source yet. As for those people claiming that EVDO USB cards do not fit, they definitely do fit, and work perfectly even when placed on a desk. Having a fast wireless connection is definitely a necessity for the Macbook Air, as when things get slow, it gets really, really annoying, so make sure to invest in some 802.11n hardware.

When doing my research here, I realized there aren’t that many options available for the Macbook Air, at least not yet. And seeing that only the AirMail was shipping, I went ahead and ordered one, and I’ll keep you posted on how it fares.

I didn’t expect my Macbook Air to ship until March 24th, so to see the shipping notification email from Amazon last night, I awoke extremely joyous. It’s like having to wait for Santa to arrive at your door because he got “lost” on Christmas Eve !

Gadget: Move Over Macbook Air, Welcome to the Napkin PC

Avery Holleman has designed the first Macbook Air-wannabe, the Napkin PC.

It’s really an amazing concept, and it’s not that far off, at least the tablet portion of it. Given the diminutive size of the Macbook Air, a device like this finally seems possible.

Buy: Macbook Air Sleeve in Manilla Envelope Style $30

I’m seriously considering purchasing a Macbook Air, and revamping my entire setup in the process. Now, just like any smart girl knows, you have to have shoes that match your ~~handbag~~ laptop, and you need a case that matches as well.

Just as Steve Jobs unveiled the laptop in a manilla envelope, the wonderful designers at mailamac.com have a manilla envelope designed for the Macbook Air.

No, this isn’t one of those “Macbook Air box” or “Macbook” “Air” being sold on eBay, this is actually a really nice manilla envelope to hold the laptop. From their FAQ page:

AirMail laptop cases are lined with thick fleece, which will protect your laptop from any cosmetic damage and smudges, and keep it safe from bumps in daily use. It is not suitable, however, for any extreme use. But geez, treat your MacBook Air kindly!

I’ll be keeping track of any new cases/sleeves to come out, but this one doesn’t look too bad, given you can tolerate the quiet giggling.
