Samsung Patents Smell Phone Technology

In an effort to attract the smellier of the cell phone market, Samsung has patented a cell phone that will be capable of spraying perfume (or cologne) when a call is placed.

Apparently the perfume can be activated by the user receiving a call, the volume of their voice, or a handy button. Personally, I can’t imagine this device having an actual use. Perhaps this feature will be included on some “fashion phones“. Then again, the last thing we need is Paris Hilton introducing her latest fragance a la cell phone.

This patent could well be the first step in creating a smell-medium for cell phone and PC use. Think of all of the smells in the world originating from a color palette. Where you have the primary smells, from sweet to stank. You would then use this palette to devise any smell you want.

You would have bakerys being able to advertise their latest cookies online and you would finally be able to smell those perfumes/cologne online. Hopefully this technology would not get into the hackers’ hands and we would have a new kind of mail bomb.

So the next time your phone rings and you start to smell a strange odor, don’t suspect the foreign guy — it’s probably your “designer” cologne phone!
