Well apparently Apple hasn’t learned anything from their $200 price cut.
I purchased my iPhone on the first day, and even waited 5 hours to ensure I was one of the first to get my phone. Turns out this didn’t even matter, as friends were able to stroll in around 8pm and pick one up.
Regardless, I considered this an investment in the next revolution of cell phones.
So I had my phone for a couple of months, and as a phone junky (I’ve been through probably 10 phones in the past year), I got the urge to jump phones namely due to the lack of PUSH and that horrid EDGE network.
Instead, I opted for the 3rd-party apps market. I installed AppTapp, Installer, all that stuff, and even installed AnySIM. The AnySIM operation never actually worked, and I tested it out just to see if it would work, and continued to use my Cingular service.
Well, low and behold, me always trying to multi-task, I updated the firmware on my phone and subsequently iBricked it. After a couple of hours on the phone with Cingular and Apple, I essentially got the cold shoulder, and was told, “your device is not honored by our warranty.”
Personally I have no problem with Apple not servicing a product that’s been modified, however, there’s just one problem.
My phone was working prior to the 1.1.1 Firmware update
After the update, my phone was no longer working
Hence, Apple broke my phone.
Now, I can see why Apple and Cingular would not want me to leave my contract, thus eliminating any revenue share, etc. But since I am a Cingular (I just left Cingular) customer, I didn’t see why I could not use my phone on their network.
Regardless, I got the cold shoulder and am forever burned — you know how it feels when your first girlfriend cheats on you, and you just feel like the world will end …yeah, thanks Apple !
So, yeah, I’m still going to buy Apple products because they’re technologically or aesthetically superior to other companies, but if there is ever a chance to switch to a company that has never broken my trust, I damn well know I won’t be getting back with that cheating bitch again (directed at no particular person).
