Howto Use Gmail to Archive All of Your Emails, Even if You Don’t Use Gmail

Use Gmail to automatically archive all of your emails, make them easy to search for, and also get the benefit of spam filtering, all in 5 easy steps !

Everyone should have a gmail account, even if you prefer to use a desktop email client like Apple Mail etc.

For me, I don’t like to use the web interface of gmail, though I must admit it has gotten a lot better.

Use Gmail to archive all of your mail for easy searching, and spam filtering

  1. Forward all of your email to Gmail
  2. If you aren’t able to forward your mail, use Gmail’s pop inbox to grab all the emails from your random accounts (my .edu account, for example)
  3. Forward all of your Gmail emails to your primary account (Mine is my .Mac)
  4. In Gmail, set to “archive Gmail’s copy” when forwarding
  5. Use Gmail search to find ANY email you receive from now on

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve searched my inbox on Apple mail and not found anything, but then searched through Gmail and found my email.

Also, since everything is going through gmail, you get the satisfaction of their superb spam filtering as well.

Pretty good for a beta product, no?
