So maybe multitasking isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I for one know that when I’m watching class, I try to check my email, read the news, and still pay attention, but often I have to pause the lecture or even go back to catch what I missed.
I tended to think I am pretty good at multitasking, but now that I think about it, when I am multitasking, there are definetely areas where the quality of my work suffers. Whether it be when I take notes, and I simply copy down the information as opposed to absorbing the information or when I find out on a test that although I physically was watching lecture, I might have zoned out what the professor had said because I was reading the latest headlines today.
The point is, I may be able to get more “done” when I multitask, but I’m not actually completing those tasks completely, and in the end I may end up spending more time going back to learn what I missed than if I had been paying my full attention to begin with.
So for all of you out there who think you can multitask better than anyone else, you can’t! Read this article and realize that you aren’t the result of an evolutionary advance.
Good luck, and be sure to read this post while you’re eating dinner, watching TV, and thinking of what to eat for dessert.
