For some reason this email caught my eye. There is no subject, which should have told me immediately it was spam, but there was something about it…
The message used my full name, and referenced my first name again later in the message.
It was sensible, well-written and caught my interest.
After looking at it again, I realized that it was a stock-email, but it was a great example of how to write community-related emails, have a look:
Hi Andrew
Having tapped in Andrew Wise on my pc to try to find an old pal, you’re the only living namesake who came up. I know you are not him ‘cos there must be about 50 years between you – if he’s still with us !
Since he was also a wise guy like you, got around a bit and would probably have called all his male progeny ‘Andrew’ (i, ii and iii and so on…) I thought it worth investing a few moments tickling the keys….you never know?
If you know or have ever heard of this man, who was a PR agent in London in the ’60s and with whom I lost touch when he went off to shoot crocodiles in New Guinea (!) do please email me.
Best wishes Bernard
