Who says flight travel is a commodity? Entrepreneur Oscar Dios just acquired the Jumbo Hostel in 2006, and plans to start booking rooms in December.
The catch is, the airplane doesn’t actually go in the air. The plane is permanently parked in Sweden, and is to be used a hostel for newly arriving European travelers.
The idea in itself really isn’t that bad; you fly into Europe, and only minutes away from your arriving gate is a hotel. After flying in from the US on a 15+ hour flight, the last thing you want to do is hunt down a hostel, so might as well get a decent nights’ sleep right when you get off your plane.
As for novelty, it’s not exactly “old Europe,” but for those people constantly drawn to gimmicky tourist traps, this would make a great pit stop on your next Eurotrip.
