Best New Show: Glee on Fox Is Like American Idol Crossed With American Pie

Just had a chance to watch Glee on Hulu, and I was blown away. The plot tells you instantly it’s going to be a hit: a teacher takes over the glee club and the star quarterback is pulling double-duty as a choir boy while the entire script is backed up by the likes of Jane Lynch (of Role Models, 40 Year Old Virgin, Best in Show fame) and superb writing. Read on for the trailer.

So you’ve got the ex-glee club teacher sponsor turning to a life of a drug dealer because it pays a hell of lot more, you’ve got a cost-cutting Indian principal reminiscent of the hilariously sarcastic Aziz Ansari, and giant singing performances, which almost guarantee the “Idol audience” will latch onto this show.

This show is well written, and relatable enough for the average American to watch it, which should ensure it stays on the air a lot longer than Arrested Development, which was another brilliant Fox show that never caught on with Joe Sixpack.
