This issue hits close to home for me, being a Floridian and knowing people who are undergoing major hardship as a result of the financial crisis.

Home prices in Florida have been sky high for the past 10 or so years, and everybody just played into the notion that house prices were going to continue to rise, no matter what happened, and a lot of smart people ended up with very overvalued homes.

You might equate this to the Bernie Madoff scandal, where very smart people were duped. First, in thinking that the housing prices were always going to climb, and secondly that strong returns were possible even though the market was down.

So where is the help for homeowners facing foreclosure in Florida? There is a Government agency, Hope Now Foundation, which helps homeowners who are facing foreclosure. They help homeowners with Florida loan modifications.

There are very few options aside from Hope Now, and that’s why I suggest homeowners read as much as they can about loan modification in an effort to try and execute a loan modification on your own, because a lot of people don’t know that you can process your own loan modification, for free.
