Welcome to the 3rd installment in my series that’s teaching you how to make money from Adsense. Checkout the previous 2 tutorials below. In this tutorial I’m going to teach you how to determine what sites are a good fit for Adsense.
Adsense Tips
So Adsense is a great revenue channel since you can get it installed in less than 5 minutes and start earning money without ever having to sell any advertising on your site. Payouts are guaranteed and you get paid every 30 days, so why wouldn’t everyone want to put Adsense on their site?
Design is #1 Priority
Be sure to read the first 2 articles in the series:
Adsense Tutorial Vol 1: What Is Adsense?
Adsense Tutorial Vol 2: How Much Can I Make?
Adsense itself is a great platform because it’s so ubiquitous, however, this can also be a hinderance. Some sites have the goal of maintaining an aesthetic visual appeal. For sites with a heavy focus on design, Adsense text ads may interfere with your design. Additionally, Adsense is often seen as “cheezy” advertising, so if you have a temperamental user base you also may want to avoid putting Adsense on your site.
Low Click Through Rates
The way you get paid on Adsense is users have to click on the ad, and then the user is taken away from your site.
For sites like Grooveshark.com where users are listening to music, and if the user clicks on an ad, they will be taken away from their listening experience, so this obviously wouldn’t be a good fit for Adsense.
Low Payouts for Certain Industries
Adsense payouts depend on the content of your site. If your site offers gossip/news oftentimes your payouts per click are less than 5 cents.
If you have a legal site, you can earn clicks as high as $10. Since Adsense is based on a bidding system, advertisers value users from legal/financial sites and devalue users from gossip/social media sites.
In determining what type of site to launch, you can get an idea what payouts you might see by using the Google Keyword Traffic Estimator Tool.
As you can see above, sites relating to “mesothelioma” can earn you up to $25 per click, pretty wild.
