Breaking Bad & Mad Man are both excellent. But for a different, lighter mood, try Burn Notice. It's just enough Miami cheese to be fun and funny, with a hint of modern day MacGyver. And who doesn't love Bruce Campbell? These entertaining ex-spies don't take themselves seriously and they sure make a seriously charming show.

Zack, The Wire is great, but I was trying to point readers to
currently running shows, because nothing's more disappointing than
getting to the end of The Wire and to have nothing to look forward to
for future seasons.

I highly recommend Dexter. Excellent writing, acting, and production. The cast of that show deserves to win every Emmy it is nominated for. Definitely worth the money to get the first 2 seasons on DVD to catch up before season 3 starts in September.
