There has been some great TV over the past couple of years with Sopranos, OZ, and Arrested Development to name a couple of my recently ended favorites. And with the 2009 Emmy nominations, it’s becoming increasingly clear what the new crop of TV shows that are going to be come the ‘Sopranos’ of the future.
2009 Best TV Shows
I’m following a couple of TV shows, and thanks to this 2009 Emmy nomination list, I have a number of shows I need to start watching because I know I’m missing out on some high-quality content.
Breaking Bad
If you know who Dr. Tim Watley is, Bryan Cranston needs no introduction, but if you’ve ever seen Malcolm in the Middle, you know who he is. With his new show, Breaking Bad, forget everything you know about every role he’s ever played before.

Walter White, aka Heizenburg, is a former Chemistry teacher, turned Meth Lord, after being told he has 3 months to live with terminal cancer.
If you have never seen a meth addict before, meet Aaron Paul or Jesse Pinkman as he’s known around all the methmouths. His character is so filthy and disgusting that I’m often forced to look away during some scenes, and for a guy who’s typically playing a Mormon in Big Love, his performance is spectacular.
Mad Men
If you don’t already know what Mad Men is, you need to educate yourself. From the producer of the Sopranos, Matthew Weiner has created Mad Men for our consumption.

The best looking man in Hollywood and his wife Betty, Mad Men follows 1960s advertising agency Sterling Cooper on Madison Avenue (hence the name “Mad Men”) through affairs, corporate takeovers, and habitual drinking in the office.
And who wouldn’t want to watch a show with January Jones in it.
New Shows To Watch
On my list for new shows I need to pick up:
Damages
Dexter
In Treatment
Anybody watching any of these? They’re all on the Emmy list, so I have to assume they’re quite worth my time.
